Video Game Personal Trainer: Wii Fit Set to Launch Today

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Personal Training in a Box: Today is the U.S. Launch of the Wii Fit, a game and related hardware designed for the Nintendo Wii. Some say that this is personal training on your TV. The Wii Fit will have exercises from four categories: Aerobic Exercise, Muscle Conditioning, Yoga Poses, and Balance Games. Although I don’t think this will totally replace outdoor exercise and time in the gym, it is definitely better than sitting around watching TV. If you or your kids are going to play video games, this would be my suggestion. The makers of the game say that it will help promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage people to stay active. If you are working with a personal trainer, maybe they can work in some of the Wii games into your session…

The Wii fit is projected to sell 3 to 4 million units in the United States and will probably sell out in Shreveport very quickly.

Seattle Post Blog about Personal Trainer Qualifications

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Patrick Welch at the Seattle post has written an article about choosing a personal trainer.  Patrick is an ACSM certified personal trainer.  He makes some pretty good points and I though I would post part of it here.  Even though this post is from a guy in Seattle you can apply his advice to choosing a personal trainer to improve your personal fitness in the Shreveport or Bossier area.  You can read the whole post here.

#1 Certifications: not all are equal. Some emphasize performance training, strength training, endurance, injury prevention and rehab or are a combination of elements. A good rule of thumb; how long did it take to complete and how much did it cost? There seems to be a direct relationship between the amount of time and money a trainer has invested in themselves and how much they care about the level of service they offer their clients.

#2 Experience: look for a balance between how much the trainer knows and how much they can teach of what they know. My brother can tell you the history of the electric guitar in irritatingly minute detail, but I’ve never heard him play anything more than the opening riff to “Smoke on the Water”… which he learned in 1972. By itself, how long someone has been doing a job is a very unreliable indicator of value. (more…)

Leona Lewis Hires Mariah Carey’s Personal Trainer to Help Her Get in Shape

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Leona Lewis Hires Personal Trainer(London) : British singer Leona Lewis is hiring pop star Mariah Carey’s personal trainer to work with her to make it big in the US.

According to reports, Lewis’ team has called Patricia Gay, who helped Carey get in shape.

A source said, “Lewis has done brilliantly in the US. But some of her team think she needs to be a bit sexier if she wants to have the longevity of female artists like Carey, Janet Jackson or Madonna.

“They think that having Lewis train with Patricia would be a treat for her because she adores Carey. She will go to Patricia’s base in the Caribbean for some intensive sessions and then Patricia will visit her regularly to continue the project.”
